Right or Left-Handed, the Key is Finding Balance

Living in a right-handed world has a significant influence on posture. Even if you’re left-handed, the human body is naturally biased to the right side. The fact is, no one is symmetrical and our organs point directly to this fact. While the liver is located on the right side of the body, the right lung has three lobes while the left only has two. Everyday habitual movement patterns such as driving, exercise, and sports, as well as the placement of the computer mouse and cabinet door handles are often significantly biased to the right.

Posture

The effect on our posture cannot be understated. Strength is developed through repetitive motion, and with an unconscious tendency toward the right side of the body, symmetrical movement does not come naturally. As we repeatedly rely on the right side of the body to bear weight more often, over time sitting, standing, reaching, even relaxing on the couch often lead to pain. I see it constantly in my practice. Everything from knee and hip pain to chronic low back pain and more, all originating from misalignment in the pelvis and a subsequently weakened core.

Help Is Available

The good news is there’s hope! By becoming aware of the challenges of living in a right-biased world we can grow in our understanding of the body and the forces acting upon it. Whether you’re experiencing chronic pain as the result of an injury or some unknown origin, I can help. Online classes continue online every Wed. and Fri. at 8:00 am with additional classes added regularly.
